The chemical substances listed below are from Batch 1 of the Challenge, and have met the criteria of section 64 (c) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999). The tables below compile the proposed risk management actions for health and the environment. For the complete wording of these proposed actions, please refer to the risk management approaches listed in the summary of Batch 1 substances and publications. An updated summary of Chemical Management Plan (CMP) risk management instruments is available on the CMP risk management actions table.

Common name: Methyloxirane
Authority Risk management actions Most recent milestone
Canada Consumer Product Safety Act Instrument to minimize releases from paint strippers, aerosol paints and similar consumer products. After product testing, where methyloxirane was not found at detectable levels, this risk management action is no longer considered necessary.
CEPA 1999 Significant New Activity (SNAc) provisions. An order amending the Domestic Substances List (DSL) was published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on December 21, 2011.
CEPA 1999 Periodic market surveillance of paint strippers, aerosol paints and similar consumer products. Approach revised following product testing. In development.
Food and Drugs Act (F&DA) (foods) Use in food packaging will be reviewed with future submissions. In effect as of July 2008.
F&DA (therapeutic products) Chemical substitution requested if an application for a Drug Identification Number for a hard surface disinfectant is filed. In effect as of July 2008.
F&DA (therapeutic products) Removal from the list of non-medicinal ingredients of the Disinfectant Drugs Guidance document. In development.
F&DA (natural health products) Removal from the Natural Health Products Directorate Database. In effect as of July 2008.
F&DA (cosmetics) Addition to Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. The Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist has been updated.

Common name: TDIs

CEPA 1999 Regulations or release guidelines that would prescribe maximum TDIs concentrations at air stack exhaust.

A final notice requiring the preparation and implementation of pollution prevention plans in respect of TDIs was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on February 16, 2019.

This notice replaces the P2 planning notice for TDIs used in the polyurethane and other foam sector (published in November 2011).
CEPA 1999 Investigation of non-foam consumer products containing TDIs. In development.
F&DA (foods) Information gathering on residual levels and potential migration of TDI in TDI-based materials. In development.
F&DA (foods) Conducting limited testing of TDI levels in specified foods. An assessment of current data satisfies this commitment. No further action is planned.
F&DA (foods) Evaluation of future submissions for the use of TDI in food packaging materials. In effect as of July 2008.
F&DA (cosmetics) Addition to the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. The Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist has been updated.
